Butsudan
Buddhist shrine for temples and homes. Five separate pieces, gold and black lacquer. Top part has carved birds and flowers over the inside doors, carved flowers and birds as well as two Deities hovering over the middle inside panel which has a painted lotus flower. Painted flowers on drawers, pull out tray, comes with religious items called "butsugu" (offering vessels, candle holder, incense burner) stored in a kiri box hidden in the bottom left hand panel. Inside doors are latticed see-through panels. Outside doors are closed when not in use. The condition is so pristine that I think this was never used, perhaps ordered and never picked up from the shop.
Japanese, late 20th century.
