Vintage Japanese Gosho-Ningyo Doll

Japanese palace doll offering another symbol of luck, hope and prayers for good fortune. Gosho-ningyos were dolls depiction children, usually young boys with corpulent bodies, naked or scantily clad, always with a look of pure innocence and trust. These were not play things for children, but more often given as gifts to celebrate auspicious moments. Painted clay with silk thread hair, standing on a kiri wood stand. No chips or missing parts, excellent condition. Mid 20th Century. 4" high x 2 1/2" wide; Daruma is 1" high.
